Colombo Archbishop Malcolm Ranjith Cardinal will speak at the main memorial service in Kochchikade
Bring everyone involved in the Easter attack to justices
Seven suggestions from Malcom cardinal to the President to identify criminals
Archbishop of Colombo, Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith, said that he hopes
that the true background of the Easter attack will be found and all those
involved will be brought to justice, without allowing it to sink into the sands
of time, as promised by the President at the Katuwapitiya Church, which was
attacked on Easter Sunday. The Cardinal said this while participating in a
service commemorating the sixth anniversary of the attack on Easter Sunday.
The commemoration began at 8.45 am with the ringing of
church bells and a two-minute silence. Following the lighting of lamps in front
of the memorial erected to commemorate those who died in the attack, Archbishop
Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith declared those who died at St. Anthony's Church in
Kochchikade and St. Sebastian's Church in Katuwapitiya as 'witnesses of the
world'.
The Venerable further expressed his views and said that the
recent history of Sri Lanka, which took place six years ago at the Kochchikade
Shrine in Colombo, St. Sebastian's Church in Katuwapitiya in Negombo, Zion
Church in Mada Batticaloa and three famous tourist resorts in Colombo, has once
again brought to our minds and thoughts the tragic moment we all experienced
when more than 255 of our Seven suggestions from Kahadinal to the President to
identify criminals
fellow Sri Lankans and more than forty-five foreigners
staying at tourist resorts were killed and more than 500 were injured and
suffered various disabilities due to the terrorist attacks that shook the
country.
The previous political leadership's attempt to cover up the
Pasco attacks is still being implemented today through certain government
institutions. A para-state is operating under the control of various government
institutions under the control of those defeated political forces. The Cardinal
also presented seven proposals to the President to identify the real
perpetrators of this attack.
They are:
- Submit the report on the Easter attacks to Parliament and make it public.
- Establish an independent prosecution office to oversee further investigations and prosecute the Easter attacks.
- Identify all the forces behind the attacks and reveal the truth to the country and bring the accused to justice, regardless of rank.
- Implement all the recommendations recommended in the Presidential Commission Report dated September 21, 2019.
- Initiate a full investigation into the relationship between the Military Intelligence Department and terrorist leader Saharan Hashim and the programs aired by Channel 4 in England and conduct a thorough investigation into what Maulana Azad, who led a key witness, said.
- Legislation was needed to eliminate the culture of lawlessness and the contradictory institutions that nurtured it, which were behind all the secret conspiracies that led to the Easter attacks.
- Leading our country towards a new culture where citizens who hold political power in the country are not rulers but servants.
Cardinal thero said here that the bloodshed of the innocents
in this attack will not be allowed to sink into the sands of time as the
President promised on October 6th last year in Katuwapitiya, but will find the
true background of this and bring all the people involved to justice.
The Vatican Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Dr. Brian Udaigwe,
ambassadors from foreign countries including those who became victims of the
attack, Pooja Prasadis, priest brothers and sisters, families and members of
the victims of the Easter attack were present for this celebration.
